Asbestos Removal at Fire Damaged Barn

Asbestos removal of a fire Damaged Barn: Asbestos Testing, Make Safe & Contaminated Waste Removal

Following the fire at Topuni, Resolution managed the asbestos risk and site safety. The initial asbestos test failed, but after guidance and remedial work a re-test was completed successfully.

Our builders secured the site with temporary fencing and safety signage, and attended asbestos awareness and pre-start meetings before works began.

An A-Class supervisor and licensed asbestos handler oversaw the safe removal of fire-damaged materials and contaminated soil. Using trucks and excavators, around 100mm of soil was scraped and removed from the garage area.

All waste was securely wrapped and transported for disposal at a licensed facility, with about 21 tonnes safely removed.

Stage 1: Fire-Damaged Barn – Removal of Contaminated Materials
The site was made safe prior to works, including installation of temporary fencing, safety signage and site establishment. Asbestos testing was carried out and all fire-damaged materials were identified and safely removed. Works included the careful handling and disposal of contaminated materials in compliance with health and safety regulations. An A-class supervisor and Worksafe-licensed asbestos handler oversaw all works including lining trucks for safe transport, use of PPE for all personnel and proper disposal of contaminated waste.

Stage 2: Civil Works – Concrete Slab Removal (Asbestos Contaminated)
The existing concrete slab and underlying soil were removed and disposed of due to asbestos-containing material (ACM) present on site. The scope included site setup with safety fencing and barriers, health and safety measures, supervising excavation, and preparing the site for machinery. A 13-tonne excavator was used over two days, supported by two 10-tonne trucks for transport of waste material. All contaminated material, including ACM, was safely removed and disposed of in accordance with regulations. Work was monitored by an asbestos team to ensure compliance with safety standards, leaving the site clean and clear for future construction.
